Could you tell us about the work you do now?
I am a singer, actor, musician, director and vocal coach in Southern California.
What professional accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am proud of the fact that I am regularly performing and directing shows in Southern California. My most recent role was playing Phoebus in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame and I currently have 5 projects booked in the next year.
How did Italian @ OU help you get to where you are today? How did your study abroad experience shape your personal and professional development?
I have been to Italy multiple times (Rome, Milan, Venice, Turin, Verona, and Bari) and was able to put my language skills to use every time which was very beneficial. I have also used it in my music career as I studied classical vocal music in school where there is a lot of repertoire in the Italian language and I played a character a couple of years ago where I had to speak Italian which was fun.
What advice would you give to current students of Italian at OU?
Keep studying and find opportunities to use your language skills. It’s a beautiful and fun language and Italian people are wonderful. Go to Italy! Don’t be afraid to practice and make mistakes because that’s how you learn! One of my best friends is from Italy and a huge reason we have gotten to be close is through our ability to try to speak each other’s languages and help each other improve. So my advice is NEVER stop learning! You’ve got this!
